Shake-A-Leg Welcomes a Royal Visit from the King and Queen of Netherlands
Shake-A-Leg Miami was honored to host a distinguished royal visit from Their Majesties, Queen Máxima and King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, marking a memorable day of connection, collaboration, and shared purpose.
The visit was originally inspired by a special initiative led by Shake-A-Leg’s Maritime and Hospitality Vocational Program (MHVP). This innovative program empowers adults and veterans with disabilities by providing hands-on training and career development opportunities in the marine and hospitality industries. As part of this effort, MHVP participants crafted a custom wooden plaque for Their Majesties’ vessel—an offering that symbolized both a shared love of the ocean and a commitment to accessibility and inclusion on the water.
Upon their arrival, Their Majesties attended a maritime industry meeting hosted at Shake-A-Leg’s facility. The gathering brought together key stakeholders and leaders in the field, fostering meaningful dialogue and strengthening partnerships aimed at expanding opportunities within the maritime sector.
Following the meeting, the royal delegation toured the Shake-A-Leg campus. Highlights included a visit to the dock, where they experienced firsthand the adaptive sailing equipment and inclusive design elements that make the organization’s programs uniquely accessible. The visit provided an opportunity to showcase how Shake-A-Leg continues to break down barriers, ensuring that individuals of all abilities can safely and confidently engage with the water.
The day was both celebratory and impactful, reflecting a shared commitment to community, innovation, and inclusion. Hosting Their Majesties was a profound honor for Shake-A-Leg, and the organization is deeply grateful for the opportunity to share its mission and the transformative work being done through its programs.
