Alexis Garcia brings Hollywood to the Grove with his new comedy Friendship with Paul Rudd and Tim Robinson

After four years of calling Coconut Grove home, Alexis Garcia is more than just a local—he’s become part of the creative heartbeat of the neighborhood. Originally from Los Angeles, Garcia is a powerhouse movie producer whose projects are now lighting up the local movie theaters.

His latest comedy, Friendship, starring Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd, is now playing at Cinepolis Coconut Grove and Silverspot Cinema. The film premiered to acclaim at SXSW and has quickly become a crowd favorite. As one viewer put it:

“The best comedy movie theater experience I’ve had in ages.”

Garcia is the co-founder of Brass Knuckle Films, a joint venture with Robert Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios, under the umbrella of Garcia’s own label, CAT5. CAT5 is an action-focused production banner backed by Fifth Season, and its first major release, A Working Man, arrives in theaters March 28, 2025, from Amazon/MGM. Directed by David Ayer, written by Sylvester Stallone, and starring Jason Statham, the film promises high-octane storytelling with major star power.

Previously the EVP at Fifth Season, Garcia helped finance and produce over 40 films in just four years. Highlights from his producing career include:

  • The Peanut Butter Falcon (SXSW Audience Award)
  • The Long Game (SXSW Narrative Spotlight Audience Award)
  • 80 For Brady
  • Michael Bay’s Ambulance

His expertise also extends to his earlier work as a talent agent with WME/Endeavor Content, where he contributed to acclaimed titles like The Favourite, The Nice Guys, and Drive. Garcia’s global experience spans from strategic advising for companies like The NFL to building entertainment strategies across China and Colombia.

Garcia holds a J.D. from UCLA School of Law and a B.A. in English and Theatre from Vanderbilt University. Before entering the entertainment industry, he practiced as a transactional attorney at top firms.

Now fully rooted in the Grove with his wife Tracy, children Noa and Ozi, and their beloved Frenchton Busta, Alexis Garcia continues to shape the comedy world—from Hollywood to Coconut Grove.

Catch Friendship now at Coconut Grove. The laughs—and the legacy—are real.
