Black Sheep Coffee Brings Bold Brews to the Grove

“The best coffee you ever tasted.” That’s the promise from Black Sheep Coffee, one of the U.K.’s most beloved coffee brands, as it opens its first Florida location at Grove Central (2750 SW 27th Terrace, Suite 108) in Coconut Grove.

The Miami coffee scene is always buzzing, and this latest addition is stirring things up in a big way. Founded in London in 2013 by Gabriel Shohet and Eirik Holth, Black Sheep Coffee has built a cult following across the U.K., France, the UAE, and beyond. With more than 116 global locations, the Grove Central outpost marks the brand’s fourth U.S. location, following its successful expansion into Texas.

Unlike most specialty coffee chains, Black Sheep Coffee is known for spotlighting sustainably sourced robusta beans—a bold alternative to arabica with higher caffeine, lower acidity, and richer flavor. On the menu, guests can find Norwegian waffles with Nutella and berries, freshly baked pastries, smoothies, and organic açaí bowls. Coffee fans can also bring the experience home by purchasing bags of premium beans in-store.

The new Coconut Grove shop makes it even easier to stay fueled and save. Students receive 20% off all purchases with a valid student ID, while a coffee subscription program offers 10% savings and flexible options to pause, skip, or cancel at any time, starting from $0/month. Customers can also download the Black Sheep Coffee app to earn loyalty points and access exclusive offers.

Founders Gabriel Shohet and Eirik Holth, university flatmates turned entrepreneurs, launched Black Sheep Coffee in London with a mission to “rid the world of boring, average-tasting coffee.” Since then, the company has raised funding from both private and institutional backers, including £23,000 through Kickstarter in 2014, £13 million from private investors in 2019, and an investment from NBA player Kristaps Porziņģis in 2021 to support U.S. expansion. The brand also received backing from the UK government’s Future Fund in 2022.

As of October 2025, Black Sheep Coffee remains primarily owned by its founders, maintaining independence rather than large institutional control. Today, the brand continues to redefine coffee culture with its robusta-based brews, offering everything from handcrafted espresso drinks and smoothies to waffles, bagels, toasties, and even espresso martinis at select evening locations.

With its arrival in Coconut Grove, Black Sheep Coffee is officially bringing the bold back in coffee — Miami style.
